Great piece, and a great reminder how Bruce Allen and Dan Snyder squandered the coaching dream team they once had.

Thanks Melissa. I know this one hurts for the Washington fans. One other detail that didn't make the final piece was that the coaching staff actually preferred Cousins over Griffin before the draft. Snyder forced them into going with Griffin. Meddlesome owners have a way of beating themselves in sports.

Ah yes, I remember that. Lived in DC at the time. Remember Snyder flying RGIII around in a private jet and getting a supersized image on the Newseum for the ton to see. It was wild and fraught with unreachable expectations for the player and coaches. Good to see all those coaches thrived while Snyder is in exile.

What a great article! As a Jets fan a constant question we ask ourselves is did we make a mistake hiring a defensive minded coach in Saleh and should we have gone the offensive route with the success of McVay, LaFleur McDaniels etc...

That stat about the super bowls is staggering and definitely something i will be thinking about these next couple of weeks throughout the playoffs.

I'm glad you enjoyed Grace. To offer you some solace (or salah-ce, sorry), one thing you have going for you as a Jets fan is that you won't have to develop a young quarterback (at least a starter) for the next year or two. I think getting strong, innovative assistants on the offensive staff (you are probably stuck with Hackett at OC as long as Rodgers is there) is gonna be key for the post-Rodgers era. One case study would be what John Harbaugh has done in Baltimore as a defensive minded coach - Baltimore has a top defense every season, and by bringing in top assistants they've also done a great job developing Lamar and also have a top five offense.

I definitely agree. The long-term solution after Rogers is highly gray at the moment I am a little concerned on Salehs offensive talent evaluation in terms of a OC’s post Hackett re: Matt LaFleur, our offensive line coach etc... this is of course if the Jets don’t implode next season 🤞🏻, then at that point, I hope everyone in the Jets front office who remains reads this article and hires Bobby Slowik.
